Rick Mercer's Calgary Zoo Visit Gets Really Wild (PHOTOS, VIDEO)

WATCH: Rick Mercer Gets Really Wild

Things got really wild when Rick Mercer visited the Calgary Zoo.

The Canadian comedian and CBC host filmed an episode for the Mercer Report in Calgary last week, where he mingled with animals at the zoo. The episode aired on Tuesday.

"The Calgary Zoo, Western Canada's largest, is home to over 1,000 animals and over 200 different species, the majority of which moved to Alberta to avoid the sales tax," Mercer said in the report.

The scrappy commentator fed animals, including hippos, giraffes and tigers, before joining the penguins at the zoo for their walk.

Dressed like one of the birds, in a black tux and white shirt, Mercer asks a penguin, "I love the look, is that a rental? Mine is."

Mercer was also game to being the birds' keeper of the day, said Trish Exton-Parder, Communications Coordinator at the Calgary Zoo.

"He mingled with keepers and the animals in their care - the hippos, giraffes, red pandas and tigers, taking in all of the experiences behind-the-scenes," she added.

The highlight of the film? Mercer being licked by a hippo.
