Super Bowl 2013: Kickoff Time, And Where To Watch In Canada

Super Bowl 2013: Kickoff Time, And Where To Watch In Canada
|

The 47th Super Bowl is shaping up to be the classic underdog scenario, and any true football fan will want to be part of the action as the 4-point-favourite San Francisco 49ers take on the Baltimore Ravens at New Orleans' Mercedes-Benz Superdome on Sunday, Feb. 3. The kick-off is set for 6:30 p.m. ET.

Canadian football fans can catch Super Bowl 2013 on CTV or on U.S. broadcaster CBS. For those of you interested in watching the ads on TV, you're probably out of luck unless you subscribe to U.S.-based football-specific channels -- CTV will substitute the American ads with Canadian ones. (Watch out for Super Bowl 2013 commercials on HuffPost Canada on game day.)

Of course, this match-up isn't just about the underdog Ravens. It's also the second time in NFL history that two brothers are facing off as opposing coaches. John and Jim Harbaugh have coaching in their family -- their father coached college football at Western Michigan and Western Kentucky, and had a winning record. Despite what seems like a large amount of pressure, the brothers have tried to play down their match-up.

Some other facts to know before the Super Bowl (or if you have a football pool to play): the 49ers have gone to the Super Bowl five times in the franchise's history, and have never lost, and neither have the Ravens -- but they've only had one previous appearance at the Big Game.

This Super Bowl marks the first time that Beyonce will be appearing as the half-time show headliner; she will be joined by Destiny's Child singers Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams. Fantasia, of "American Idol" fame, is also set to perform with a gospel band.

This is also the last on-field appearance of football legend Ray Lewis, the Ravens' linebacker, who has been the heart and soul of the lineup during the 2012-2013 season (despite a triceps injury that has kept him sidelined for the majority of it). The only player left from the original Baltimore Ravens lineup, Lewis has played his entire career with the team. So what better sendoff than a Super Bowl?

Immediately following the Super Bowl broadcast, if you're watching CTV, you can tune in to "Motive," a detective thriller starring Kristin Lehman, Louis Ferreira, and Lauren Holly. On CBS, "Elementary" will be playing after the game.
