Looking for something to do in Vancouver this weekend? Check out our picks of the best events around town July 11 to 14.

MUSIC

Sunday night Yasiin Bey aka Mos Def takes the stage at the Vogue, just days after making headlines with a graphic video staging a force-feeding based on standard operating instructions leaked from Guantanamo.

Dallas Green fans will want to head out to the PNE Amphitheatre Friday, where City And Colour will be rocking the house with sounds from recently released album "The Hurry And The Harm" — his first solo recording since Alexisonfire split.

Back at the Vogue, country soulstress Mary Chapin Carpenter, will be joined by acclaimed singer-songwriter Marc Cohn, Saturday night.

Don't miss the opportunity for a great day out in glorious sunshine on Saturday. Head to Kitsilano, where the second Khatsahlano Festival will take over ten blocks, with a series of stages presenting live local bands all day. Prepare for crowds.

MOVIES

With footage of luminaries such as Bob Dylan and Joni Mitchell, and interviews with a host of 60s folk legends, "Greenwich Village: The Music That Defined A Generation" provides the perfect scene-setter for next weekend's Vancouver International Folk Festival. Catch it all week at the Vancity Theatre, beginning Friday July 12.

There's still time to catch some of Japanese animator Hideo Miyazaki's incredible work at The Cinematheque, playing all weekend. Big kids and little kids alike can't fail to be enthralled. Be prepared for line ups.

THEATRE

Don't miss the excellent production of Hamlet at this year's Bard on the Beach. Between Kim Collier's audacious direction and Jonathon Young's remarkable performance as the Dane, this is without question one of the best theatrical experiences you'll see all year.

EVENTS

Summer isn't really summer without a trip down to Chinatown for good eats and good fun. This weekend's Chinatown Night Marketincludes this year's new sensation - around the world ping pong - on Friday, and a free screening of Bruce Lee's "Enter The Dragon" Saturday.

If you fancy a short trip out of town, head north on Sunday for Whistler, where the Bearfoot Bistro will play host to the "World Oyster Invitational". Professional oyster shuckers from around the world will be competing in this charity event to see who can shuck 30 oysters perfectly in a timed battle. There's also a "Bloody Caesar Battle" for the bartenders and refreshments included in the $48 ticket price.

Fancy some fairground fun? Head to Gay Day at Playland on Sunday for the annual event organized by Vancouver PrideSociety, which runs from noon.
