Toronto Storm 2014: Heavy Rain For Parts Of Ontario Tuesday

Environment Canada has issued a thunderstorm alert for the Toronto area and parts of southern Ontario Tuesday.

Heavy rain and thunder is forecast for Hamilton and Oakville, and the storm is expected to hit the Toronto region during the afternoon rush hour, tweeted Chris Scott, chief meteorologist for the Weather Network.

The CBC reported that several people were struck by lightning north of the city.

The Toronto area was hard-hit by thunderstorms nearly a year ago, when a sudden downpour caused major flooding. Power outages, flight cancellations and washed-out roads resulted in the most expensive natural disaster in Ontario history. A whopping 126 millimetres of rain was dumped on the city in just two hours, causing more than $850 million in damage.
