Montreal is one of Canada's best cities for food, if not the best. Between late-night poutine joints, Michelin-calibre bistros and diverse fare from around the world, it's easy to spend several days in La Métropole simply going from dish to dish.

But of course, you have to start those meals somewhere, and that somewhere should be with one of the city's epic breakfasts. Perhaps it's the classic French way of cooking Hollandaise sauces, or just a real love for potato dishes, but for whatever reason, breakfast — or brunch, if you prefer — in Montreal is a delicious adventure every time.

We've pulled together 20 of the most delicious spots in Montreal. While pretty much every one of these locations offers up the classic Montreal bagel breakfast (with cream cheese, smoked salmon and capers, naturellement), they also have unique takes on eggs, pastries and poutine. Because why not?

Check out our list, and let us know if you have a favourite Montreal breakfast spot we missed:
