FAZILKA -- A total of 13 teachers, including four women were killed in a collision between the vehicle they were travelling in and a truck over dense fog on Fazilka-Jalalabad road on Friday, police said.

The police said the teachers were on their way to duty and that the cause of the mishap was poor visibility due to dense fog.

Punjab Congress chief Amarinder Singh condoled the deaths.

In his condolence message, Singh said it was a sad moment and his heart went out to the bereaved families.

The Congress leader also asked the state government to change the school timings in order to ensure that 'school teachers, students and other staff are not exposed to the risk of such accidents due to fog'.
