Six men transporting buffaloes were allegedly attacked by cow vigilantes on Friday night in Baba Haridas Nagar in south west Delhi, The Hindustan Timesreported today. The mob claimed that the animals were being transported for slaughter and let loose the livestock.
ANI reported that the vans carrying the buffalo calves were vandalized.
The attack comes a week after Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that violence in the name of gau bhkati would not be tolerated. A cattle trader in Jharkhand was attacked on the same day that Modi spoke out against the menace of cow vigilantism.
In the attack on Friday night, HT reported, cow vigilantes threw stones at the six to seven vans that were transporting the buffaloes. While one man, 40-year-old Ali Jaan, received serious injuries, others were injured on their hands and face.
The Delhi police is not sure about the identity of the attackers, the newspaper reported. An FIR has been registered at the Baba Haridas Nagar police station.
