When Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Vikas Swarup was appointed as India's High Commissioner to Canada, he received many congratulatory messages.
There were tweets congratulating him and some of his close friends sent him personal notes.
On Saturday, according to the Indian Express, Swarup received a bouquet that came with an unexpected note.
It said, "May your soul rest in peace."
Swarup, a little bemused perhaps, confronted the friend who had sent the bouquet. His friend told him that he had penned a note with a different message and directed him to the florist who was responsible for the mix-up.
The florist first apologised to Swarup and then revealed that he had an even bigger concern. "Sir, just think that a bouquet has gone to somebody (who has passed away) today with the note, 'Congratulations on your next posting'," he said.
Meanwhile, Gopal Baglay is all set to replace Swarup as the MEA spokesperson.
Baglay belongs to the 1992 batch of the Indian Foreign Service and currently heads the Pakistan division. He has also served as the Deputy High Commissioner to Pakistan.
