NAIROBI, Kenya - Un porte-parole de l'armée du Kenya a confirmé samedi les noms des auteurs de l'attaque contre le centre commercial Westgate Mall à Nairobi, qui a donné lieu à un siège de quatre jours et a fait au moins 67 morts le mois dernier.

Le major Emmanuel Chirchir a affirmé que les quatre attaquants se nommaient Abu Baara al-Sudani, Omar Nabhan, Khattab al-Kene et Umayr. Les noms ont d'abord été divulgués par une station de télévision locale.

L'identité des quatre hommes a été révélée après qu'une chaîne télévisée privée de Nairobi eut obtenu et diffusé une vidéo de l'assaut contre le centre commercial captée par des caméras de surveillance.

Les images ne montrent que quatre assaillants en train de traverser tranquillement un magasin, mitraillette à la main.

Elles contredisent ainsi les premiers rapports du gouvernement kényan sur l'attaque, qui soutenaient que 10 à 15 hommes armés avaient participé à l'assaut du 21 septembre.

Il est toutefois possible que d'autres assaillants n'apparaissant pas dans la vidéo aient pris part à l'opération.

Al-Shabab, une organisation terroriste somalienne affiliée à Al-Qaida, a revendiqué l'assaut, disant qu'elle avait voulu se venger de l'intervention militaire du Kenya en Somalie il y a deux ans qui visait à chasser les extrémistes du pays.
