Carey Price et P.K. Subban sont invités au camp d'orientation d'Équipe Canada

Sidney Crosby et Jonathan Toews constituent les têtes d'affiche des 47 joueurs qui ont reçu l'invitation pour participer au camp d'orientation de l'équipe olympique canadienne de hockey. Deux joueurs du Canadien ont également eu droit à cette invitation, le gardien Carey Price et le défenseur P.K. Subban.

Ce camp se déroulera du 25 au 28 août à Calgary et il s'agira de la première étape du processus de sélection des 25 joueurs qui porteront les couleurs du Canada lors des Jeux de Sotchi, en Russie.

Crosby et Toews figurent parmi les 15 invités qui ont aidé le Canada à décrocher l'or aux Jeux de Vancouver en 2010.

Les autres sont le gardien Roberto Luongo, les défenseurs Dan Boyle, Drew Doughty, Duncan Keith, Brent Seabrook et Shea Weber, ainsi qu les attaquants Patrice Bergeron, Corey Perry, Ryan Getzlaf, Rick Nash, Mike Richards, Eric Staal et Joe Thornton.

Outre Subban, plusieurs joueurs reçoivent l'invitation pour la première fois. C'est le cas du défenseur Alex Pietrangelo et des attaquants Steven Stamkos, Taylor Hall, Jordan Eberle, John Tavares, Claude Giroux et Brad Marchand.

Cette première liste inclut cinq gardiens, 17 défenseurs et 25 attaquants.

La majorité du personnel d'entraîneurs en poste à Vancouver est de retour. Mike Babcock agira comme entraîneur-chef et il sera secondé par Lindy Ruff et Ken Hitchcock. Claude Julien remplace Jacques Lemaire.

Les Blackhawks de Chicago comptent le plus de joueurs invités avec cinq, suivis des Penguins de Pittsburgh avec quatre. Les Bruins de Boston, les Kings de Los Angeles et les Capitals de Washington en ont trois chacun.

Les gardiens sont Luongo, qui était le gardien partant lors de la finale en 2010, Price, Mike Smith, Corey Crawford et Braden Holtby.

Les autres défenseurs sont Karl Alzner, Jay Bouwmeester, Mike Green, Dan Hamhuis, Travis Hamonic, Kristopher Letang, Marc Methot, Dion Phaneuf, Marc Staal et Marc-Edouard Vlasic.

Les attaquants Jeff Carter, Logan Couture, Matt Duchene, Chris Kunitz, Andrew Ladd, Milan Lucic, James Neal, Patrick Sharp, Jordan Staal et Martin St.Louis complètent la liste des attaquants.

Parmi les figures connues qui n'ont pas reçu d'invitation, on note le vétéran gardien de 41 ans Martin Brodeur, qui a pris part aux quatre Jeux olympiques depuis l'entrée en scène des joueurs de la LNH à Nagano en 1998, et Jarome Iginla, qui a participé aux trois dernières éditions.

Cette annonce de Hockey Canada survient quelques jours après la conclusion d'une entente permettant aux joueurs de la LNH de participer aux Jeux de Sotchi.

Le Canada amorcera le tournoi olympique contre la Norvège, le 13 février.
