Classique hivernale: René Rancourt sans voix

À moins de 10 jours du grand match extérieur qui doit opposer le Canadien aux Bruins de Boston, une controverse fait rage autour de l'interprétation des hymnes nationaux.

Le chanteur attitré des Bruins depuis 1976, René Rancourt, est sur le point d'être écarté de la Classique hivernale pour faire place à la dernière vedette instantanée du réseau NBC, diffuseur officiel de l'événement en sol américain.

Les dirigeants du réseau souhaitent faire fi de la longue tradition. Misant sur la convergence, NBC voudrait confier la tâche honorifique de chanter les hymnes nationaux à Jordan Smith, plus récent vainqueur de la série The Voice (La Voix).

Cette décision éditoriale a déjà provoqué une levée de boucliers et incité les internautes à signer une pétition pour la présence de René Rancourt à la Classique hivernale. La pétition réclame aussi la présence de Ginette Reno pour chanter l'Ô Canada.

Le descripteur des matchs des Bruins au réseau NESN, Jack Edwards, a qualifié de « nulle » la décision de NBC d'ignorer Rancourt.

Le personnage de Rancourt, maintenant âgé de 76 ans, est tellement associé à l'histoire des Bruins que l'équipe utilise son image aux côtés de l'ours mascotte afin de promouvoir le grand rendez-vous du Nouvel An.

Or, il semble bien que dans l'esprit de nombreux amateurs, tant bostoniens que montréalais, la Classique hivernale 2016 soit sur le point de commencer sur une fausse note.
