MONTRÉAL - La Colombie-Britannique et l'Alberta sont à blâmer pour le couvert de fumée qui a enveloppé plusieurs régions du Québec au cours des derniers jours.

Une odeur de fumée, jumelée à un épisode de smog, était bien perceptible en plusieurs endroits du Québec cette semaine.

Selon la Société de protection des forêts contre le feu (SOPFEU), cette fumée provenait d'aussi loin que l'Ouest canadien, où des brasiers ravagent de larges superficies de forêts.

Pendant ce temps, au Québec, seulement cinq incendies de forêt sont en activité, notamment sur la Côte-Nord, au Saguenay - Lac-Saint-Jean et dans la région de Maniwaki.

La province connaît d'ailleurs un été particulièrement clément pour ses aires boisées. Depuis le début de la saison, 165 incendies ont anéanti 213 hectares de forêt sur l'ensemble du territoire québécois.

Au cours des dix dernières années, c'étaient en moyenne 437 incendies, s'étendant sur quelque 100 000 hectares, qui étaient en activité à pareille date.

L'année record a été enregistrée en 2008, alors que 189 incendies avaient brûlé 132 hectares de terres boisées du printemps jusqu'au début de l'hiver.
