Un rapport toxicologique a démontré samedi que l'artilleur des Marlins Jose Fernandez avait consommé de l'alcool et de la cocaïne avant que son embarcation heurte violemment une jetée près de 'Government Cut' à Miami.
On ignore toujours si Fernandez était au volant lorsque l'accident est survenu dans la nuit du 25 septembre, entraînant dans la mort le joueur de baseball de 24 ans et deux de ses amis, Emilio Jesus Macias (27 ans) et Eduardo Rivero (25 ans).
Cependant, Fernandez affichait un taux d'alcoolémie dans le sang de 0,147, bien au-delà de la limite de 0,08 permise en Floride, selon le rapport d'autopsie diffusé par le bureau du coroner du comté de Miami-Dade.
Le coroner en chef adjoint, Kenneth Hutchins, a précisé dans le rapport que Fernandez avait subi d'importantes blessures à la tête et au torse au moment de l'impact, tout comme les deux autres victimes.
Le rapport toxicologique rapporte également qu'ils avaient tous consommé de l'alcool, et des traces de cocaïne ont également été retrouvées dans l'organisme de Rivero.
Les corps dégageaient de fortes odeurs d'alcool lorsqu'ils ont été récupérés par les plongeurs, et les enquêteurs ont aussi trouvé des preuves démontrant que l'embarcation circulait à très haute vitesse lorsqu'elle a heurté la jetée, selon un affidavit du mandat de perquisition publié cette semaine par le bureau du comté de procureur de Miami-Dade.
L'affidavit précise que les policiers ont récupéré une facture prouvant l'achat d'alcool provenant de l'American Social Bar & Kitchen, où le trio s'était rendu avant l'accident.
La Commission de protection des poissons et de la faune de la Floride a enquête dans cette affaire. Le maire du comté de Miami-Dade Carlos Gimenez a supervisé la diffusion des informations samedi.
