Le gouvernement canadien fait un don de 100 000 $ à l'organisme Immunisation Canada en l'honneur de la princesse Charlotte, la fille de la duchesse de Cambridge, Kate, et du prince William.

Stephen Harper a annoncé que le don ira à Immunisation Canada, qui est une coalition nationale de 24 organisations, telles que l'Association canadienne de santé publique ou encore l'Institut canadien de la santé infantile.

La petite Charlotte est née le 2 mai dernier. Elle est le deuxième enfant du couple royal. Le gouvernement Harper dit avoir fait un don en son nom pour aider à favoriser la protection des enfants aux quatre coins du pays. Ottawa dit avoir choisi Immunisation Canada parce que cet organisme cherche à mieux faire comprendre et à promouvoir la vaccination.

Plus précisément, l'organisme basé à Ottawa favorise le contrôle, l'élimination et l'éradication des maladies évitables par la vaccination au Canada en sensibilisant la population aux vaccins recommandés à tout âge par le Comité consultatif national de l'immunisation (CCNI), au moyen d'activités de sensibilisation, de promotion, d'action sociale et de relations médiatiques.

Par voie de communiqué, le gouvernement Harper a fait aussi savoir qu'il offrait en cadeau à la petite princesse : « Un habit de neige fait au Canada, à l'image de l'identité nordique de notre pays ».
