Le PQ et la CAQ ont un «lourd passif» envers les immigrants, dit Couillard (VIDÉO)

QUÉBEC – Le premier ministre Philippe Couillard a dénoncé dimanche les actes d’intolérance devant l’arrivée prochaine de quelque 6 000 réfugiés syriens au Québec. Il a en aussi profité pour dénoncer certaines prises de positions passées du PQ et de la CAQ au sujet des nouveaux arrivants.

«Malheureusement, dans les deux cas, ils ont un lourd passif déjà inscrit», a-t-il lancé au cours du point de presse de clôture du Conseil général du PLQ.

«D’abord, cet épisode très regrettable de la charte des valeurs, qui a vraiment divisé les Québécois et qui, je peux vous le dire, au niveau international, a envoyé un message très, très négatif», a-t-il dit au sujet du projet mis de l’avant par le gouvernement Marois.

Le premier ministre a ensuite dénoncé la proposition faite par le député péquiste Jean-François Lisée dans son plus récent livre de n’accorder le droit de vote aux nouveaux arrivants qu’au bout d’un an. «Il n’y a personne qui fait ça, a enchaîné Philippe Couillard. Il n’y a pas une société démocratique qui fait des trucs comme ça.»

Quant à la CAQ, le premier ministre s’est insurgé contre sa volonté d’imposer un examen de citoyenneté aux immigrants trois ans après leur arrivée au pays. «L’examen, ils le passent quand ils ont le courage de traverser le monde, pis venir chez nous», a-t-il lancé.

Sans accuser directement ses adversaires, le premier ministre a mis en garde les partis politiques qui seraient tentés de capitaliser sur le sentiment d’intolérance dans la société. «Parfois, et je suppose parfois même involontairement, en adoptant certaines politiques qui semblent faciles, qui semblent répondre à ce qu’on croit être le souhait de la population, on pose des gestes qui attisent les braises de ces démons qu’on a chez nous, comme partout ailleurs.»

Une pétition mise en ligne dans la foulée des attentats de Paris réclame la suspension de l’arrivée des Syriens au pays «pour des raisons de sécurité nationale». Au moment d'écrire ces lignes, la pétition avait recueilli plus de 30 000 signatures.

Philippe Couillard a plaidé de nombreuses fois ce week-end pour l'accueil des réfugiés, mais dit comprendre les inquiétudes de certains Québécois. «Elle est légitime la préoccupation de la sécurité et on le dit depuis le début, a dit Philippe Couillard. C’est pour ça qu’on va travailler avec le gouvernement fédéral pour faire en sorte que les vérifications de sécurité soient faites non seulement de façon complète, mais de façon diligente, mais sans mettre de côté la qualité et la profondeur de ces vérifications.»

Plus tôt, la ministre de la Justice, Stéphanie Vallée, s’est également inquiétée d’un sentiment d’intolérance dans la population face aux réfugiés. «On a pu la constater au cours des dernières semaines, notamment cette bannière qu'on a pu voir à Québec, a-t-elle dit aux journalistes. On le constate aussi dans certains échanges, on le constate dans certains propos sur les médias sociaux, cette intolérance-là à l'égard de l'autre.»

Même s’il s’est déjà dit en faveur d’une intervention militaire contre l’État islamique, Philippe Couillard ne tentera pas de convaincre le premier ministre Justin Trudeau de ne pas retirer les CF18 engagés dans des missions de combat dans la région. «Ce n’est pas mon rôle de le faire. J’ai exprimé déjà mon opinion personnelle sur la question de l’intervention militaire du Canada, je n’ai pas changé d’avis, a-t-il souligné. Mais, comme je l’ai dit plutôt à vos collègues, je n’ai pas l’intention d’ajouter de la pression sur les épaules de monsieur Trudeau qui en a déjà beaucoup, à son arrivée.»
