Jose Bautista, l'ennemi public no 1 au Texas, a ajouté une claque de trois points en neuvième manche aux dépens du releveur Jake Diekman pour tourner le fer dans la plaie. Il a doucement déposé son bâton pendant que le partisan qui a capté la balle la renvoyait sur le terrain.

Il s'agissait du quatrième circuit de Bautista à ses huit dernières présences au bâton en séries. Il est à égalité avec Joe Carter pour le nombre de circuits en séries pour un joueur des Blue Jays avec six.

Estrada est venu bien près de lancer durant un match complet pour la première fois de sa carrière. Elvis Andrus a cependant frappé un triple en fin de neuvième manche et a croisé le marbre sur un roulant de Shin-Soo Choo, ce qui a mis fin au match d'Estrada (1-0).

Ce dernier a donné un point sur quatre coups sûrs en huit manches et un tiers en plus de retirer six frappeurs au bâton.

Le deuxième match de la série aura lieu vendredi, toujours au Texas.

Les Jays ont envoyé neuf frappeurs au bâton en troisième, marquant cinq points avec deux retraits. Troy Tulowitzki a fait le plus gros des dommages avec un triple de trois points.

Melvin Upton fils a claqué un circuit solo au cours d'une quatrième manche de deux points. Josh Donaldson, qui a obtenu deux simples, deux doubles et un but sur balles, a produit un point en troisième et en quatrième. Ses quatre coups sûrs a égalé une marque d'équipe en séries.

Tandis qu'Hamels (0-1) connaissait des ennuis en trois manches et un tiers, Estrada a été solide, retirant 15 des 16 frappeurs auxquels il a fait face. Le seul joueur des Rangers à atteindre les sentiers au cours de cette séquence a été Adrian Beltre en deuxième manche sur un coup sûr à l'avant-champ.

Estrada a retiré 12 frappeurs de suite après que Beltre eut frappé un simple en sixième. Andrus s'est fait épingler sur une tentative de vol tandis que Choo se faisait retirer au bâton _ c'était ce genre de match pour les Rangers.

Le droitier de 33 ans a fait face à un seul frappeur de plus que le minimum en huit manches, aidant la relève des Blue Jays qui avait été surutilisée au cours des derniers jours.
