Deux hommes se sont vu refuser temporairement l’embarquement à bord d'un vol Southwest Airline en partance de Chicago, mercredi, en raison de deux passagers devenus anxieux après les avoir entendu discuter en arabe.

Maher Khalil et Anas Ayyad ont par la suite été autorisés à monter dans l’appareil. Une fois de plus, ils ont été confrontés à la discrimination.

Khalil transportait une petite boîte et les passagers ont demandé qu’il l’ouvre, rapporte-t-il à NBC Philadelphia jeudi.

Même si les deux amis avaient déjà été retardés sans raison valable, Khalil a obtempéré et il a partagé le baklava à l'intérieur de la boîte avec les gens à bord de l'avion.

«Si quelqu’un ne se sent pas en sécurité, laissez-le prendre l’autobus», a lancé Khalil à l’agent de la compagnie aérienne à la porte d’embarquement. Nous sommes des citoyens américains comme les autres.

La compagnie aérienne a affirmé à Gawker, samedi, que l’incident n’a duré que quelques minutes.

Il ne s’agit pas du seul incident rapporté cette semaine. Six hommes ont été expulsés d’un avion de Chicago en direction de Houston. Ils auraient demandé à plusieurs personnes de se déplacer afin de pouvoir s'asseoir les uns à côté des autres, indique ABC Chicago. Aux dires des passagers, les individus ayant été invités à descendre de l’appareil semblaient tous originaires du Moyen-Orient.

Ces deux événements s’ajoutent à d’autres incidents islamophobes survenus aux États-Unis et au Canada depuis les attentats de Paris la semaine dernière.
