Les policiers de la GRC qui recherchaient depuis ce matin un suspect possiblement armé dans un quartier résidentiel de Moncton, au Nouveau-Brunswick, viennent de quitter les lieux. Ils vont publier un communiqué au cours des prochaines minutes.

La GRC a expliqué que vers 11 h 15, dimanche, un témoin a vu un jeune homme marcher dans l'avenue Katherine en portant quelque chose qui ressemblait à une arme à feu.

« Ce serait un jeune homme qu'on pense qui aurait possiblement 17 ou 18 ans. Il portait des pantalons de couleur foncée quand il a été vu, avec un manteau gris. Sur son manteau, il y avait des rayures rouges sur les manches. On dit qu'il est à peu près de taille moyenne, mince, et qu'il portait une tuque noire et qu'il aurait les cheveux foncés », a précisé Chantal Farrah, porte-parole de la GRC.

Par mesure de précaution, la GRC a limité la circulation dans le secteur du chemin Mountain et des rues Kendra, Connaught, Killam, Anne et Weslan.

Les gendarmes ont fait du porte-à-porte dans le secteur. Ils demandaient aux gens de rester dans leur domicile et de répondre quand les agents frappent à la porte.

« On est aussi en train de demander aux gens de rester à l'intérieur de la maison pour limiter les mouvements parce que ça facilite le travail des policiers sur les lieux. C'est plus facile de chercher quelqu'un lorsqu'il y a moins de gens dans la région », avait expliqué Mme Farrah.
