Le constructeur français Renault, disparu du marché canadien depuis plusieurs décennies, fera un retour timide au cours des prochaines semaines, profitant d’un partenariat avec la compagnie québécoise Azra. La firme, spécialisée en production et distribution de bornes de recharge pour les véhicules électriques, a en effet reçu l’aval de Transports Canada pour amener et commercialiser au pays la petite Twizy une microvoiture à usage urbain.

La Twizy sera d’abord offerte en location, pour un coût limité à 99 $ par mois, incluant l’immatriculation et les assurances. Les locataires, que le président et directeur général de Azra Jean-François Carrière a baptisés des twizers, devront toutefois limiter leurs déplacements à certaines zones, puisque l’usage du Twizy n’est pas encore permis partout.

« Dès demain, à Vancouver, il est possible de rouler en Twizy en zone urbaine. Pour les autres régions, il faudra attendre des changements de règlements provinciaux », a expliqué monsieur Carrière.

Une situation confirmée par Jacques Daoust, ministre des Transports et de la Mobilité durable du Québec, qui a expliqué, en conférence de presse, « qu’il faudrait modifier les règles pour permettre aux Twizy de prendre la route, mais nous avons bon espoir que cela se fera rapidement ».

La Twizy est un petit véhicule destiné essentiellement à un usage pratique. Dotée d’un petit moteur 100 % électrique, elle profite d’une autonomie de 100 kilomètres, exige 3 heures pour se recharger et jouit de la même technologie de recharge que les voitures électriques traditionnelles.

« La Twizy, c’est la vision de Renault de la voiture du futur. C’est pourquoi, en plus d’être zéro émission, cette petite voiture deux passagers est dotée de tous les éléments qui en font un véhicule sécuritaire : un coussin gonflable calqué sur celui de la Renault Mégane, des ceintures de sécurité identiques à celles des voitures, et une maniabilité qui la rend facile à utiliser dans toutes les circonstances. Nous sommes heureux que Azra ait choisi ce petit véhicule pour ramener Renault au cœur du marché canadien », a pour sa part précisé Guillaume Berthier, directeur commercial de Renault.

Une distribution limitée

Selon le PDG de Azra, on estime à 600 unités les premières ventes du véhicule. Impossible cependant de savoir à quel moment ces ventes débuteront. « Tout le monde nous dit qu’ils veulent voir le véhicule sur les routes avant l’été. Nous avons donc confiance que la réglementation sera modifiée avant cette date », précise-t-il.

D’ici là, l’usage de la Twizy sera réservé aux parcs fermés, comme des groupes d’immeubles privés, des centres commerciaux ou des campings. Même une fois homologuée au Québec, la Twizy devra demeurer en zone urbaine, puisque sa vitesse maximale de 40 kilomètres à l’heure lui interdit de circuler sur les routes ayant des limites supérieures à 50 km/h.

Aucune information n’est disponible quant au réseau de distribution ou à la commercialisation. En revanche, outre la location individuelle, Azra souhaite aussi établir un programme de partage.

Le lancement de la Renault Twizy n’est que la première étape pour Azra qui annonce vouloir investir quelque 40 millions de dollars au cours des 18 prochains mois dans l’établissement d’un réseau de bornes de recharge de quelque 2 000 points de service.

« Nous nous sommes donnés comme mission d’améliorer notre environnement, et notre première démarche c’est la Twizy. Nos autres projets sont toujours en développement », a conclu monsieur Carrière.
