LONDRES - Susie Wolff a été promue au poste de pilote d'essai officielle chez Williams en prévision de la saison 2015 de Formule Un, augmentant ainsi ses chances de devenir la première femme à se retrouver sur la grille de départ d'un Grand Prix depuis 1976.

Wolff exploitera ses trois saisons passées à titre de pilote de développement lorsqu'elle donnera ses coups de roue pendant les deux premières séances d'essais libres de chaque Grand Prix où elle sera invitée, en plus des deux journées d'essais. Elle passera également beaucoup de temps dans un simulateur de course afin de poursuivre le développement des nouveaux bolides Williams.

Si Valtteri Bottas ou Felipe Massa devait s'absenter d'une course la saison prochaine, Wolff, qui est âgée de 31 ans, serait la première appelée en renfort.

La pilote italienne Lella Lombardi fut la dernière femme à prendre part à une épreuve de F1.

Wolff a participé à des essais en marge des Grand Prix de Grande-Bretagne et d'Allemagne cette saison.
