LOS ANGELES, États-Unis - Malgré sa disponibilité en vidéo sur demande, les cinéphiles ont tout de même afflué dans les salles de cinéma pour visionner «The Interview», jeudi, aux États-Unis.

Le film a enregistré des recettes de plus d'un million de dollars dans seulement 331 salles, une impressionnante moyenne de 3142 $ par établissement, selon le distributeur Sony Pictures. Plusieurs salles ont rapporté des présentations à guichets fermés.

Il y a une semaine, on croyait que personne ne verrait la comédie satirique en raison des menaces de pirates informatiques, mais, dans un revirement de situation inattendu, le studio a décidé de permettre la diffusion du film en salles et l'a rendu disponible pour des locations ou des achats sur différentes plateformes numériques.

Rory Bruer, le président de la distribution mondiale de Sony Pictures, a indiqué dans un communiqué que le studio était extrêmement reconnaissant envers la population du pays qui avait participé à la sortie non-conventionnelle du film.
