Les sifflets du public qui ont visé mardi soir le Français Renaud Lavillenie lors de la cérémonie des médailles à Rio sont «inacceptables», a déclaré le président du Comité international olympique (CIO), Thomas Bach, selon le compte Twitter du CIO.
Lavillenie était opposé au Brésilien Thiago Braz en finale du saut à la perche, lundi soir. Les derniers essais du Français ont été hués par la foule.
«C'est la première fois qu'on voit ça en athlétisme. Je pense que la dernière fois qu'on a vu ça, c'est quand Jesse Owens a couru en 1936», avait-il dit dans une référence aux JO de Berlin, sous le régime nazi.
Lavillenie s'est ensuite excusé. Mais visiblement, le public n'a pas apprécié. Le recordman du monde a été copieusement sifflé mardi soir lorsqu'il est revenu au stade pour recevoir sa médaille d'argent.
Conspué par le public, le médaillé d'argent a laissé échapper des larmes sur le podium, la médaille autour du cou. Il s'est ensuite effondré et a trouvé refuge dans une petite salle sous la tribune principale où M. Bach notamment est venu le réconforter.
«Comportement choquant du public qui a hué Renaud Lavillenie sur le podium. Inacceptable aux Jeux olympiques», a tweeté en anglais le président du CIO.
Un autre tweet du même compte montrait une photo du recordman du monde de la perche, réconforté par Thiago Braz, le Brésilien vainqueur du concours, ainsi que par Serguei Bubka, vice-président de la fédération internationale d'athlétisme (IAAF) et ancien recordman du monde à la perche.
