FERGUSON — À la veille du premier anniversaire de la mort de Michael Brown après sa confrontation avec policier à Ferguson, au Missouri, son père affirme que sa famille pleure encore la mort du jeune homme de 18 ans.

Plusieurs événements sont prévus en fin de semaine pour commémorer le premier anniversaire de l'altercation, au cours de laquelle le jeune Noir non armé a été abattu par le policier blanc Darren Wilson dans cette banlieue de Saint-Louis aujourd'hui connue pour les émeutes qui ont y fait rage par la suite.

La mort de Michael Brown a contribué à étendre le mouvement national «La vie des Noirs compte» («Black Lives Matter», en anglais), qui soulève de graves questions sur l'attitude des forces de l'ordre américaines envers les minorités et sur la militarisation de la police.

En novembre dernier, de nouvelles violences ont éclaté à Ferguson quand un grand jury a décidé de ne déposer aucune accusation contre le policier Darren Wilson, qui avait démissionné entre temps.

Samedi, le père de Michael Brown a guidé la marche pacifique qui a débuté au mémorial marquant l'endroit où son fils a été tué. Il était suivi par plusieurs centaines de personnes, un corps de percussion et quelques voitures. Leur procession s'est arrêtée huit kilomètres plus loin, à l'école secondaire Normandy.

M. Brown a souligné que l'anniversaire faisait remonter toute la peine et les émotions, mais qu'il était important de demeurer à l'affût des préoccupations concernant la brutalité policière et l'utilisation de la force.

D'autres marches étaient prévues plus tard samedi. Dimanche, une marche se terminera juste avant midi par une minute de silence pour marquer le moment exact de la mort de Michael Brown.
