Claire Krakowiak

14-year-old high school freshman in Canada

My name is Claire Krakowiak. I am 14 and I am a freshman, or in grade nine, at a private school in Canada. I moved to Oakville, Ontario about a year ago from Cleveland, but am originally from a suburb near Detroit. I have been through these moves with my parents and my sisters: Maddie, who is in her sophomore year in high school, and Sarah, who is in eighth grade. Canada would seem to be really similar to the United States, but they are unlike in so many ways. For instance, I eat family style at lunch with my “tutorial group,” played soccer and baseball to win points for my “house,” and tore an entire booklet into confetti pieces to toss in the air at our school’s Christmas closing. Yes, my school in Canada has provided me with some pretty unique experiences.

Theatre is one of my favorite things to do, as well as cross-country and of course, writing! I really love to write, have a unique point of view, and have a good sense of humor. I am also in a community group called Me2We, where we raise money for a different country each year in Africa. I was just at a five-day, four-night camping trip for school where I learned many skills such as how to build a fire, go on a zip line, and do archery (only in Canada, eh?) I can’t wait to share my writing on this blog!
