President of Northern Illinois University

Northern Illinois University President Douglas D. Baker has a rich background in business, organizational management and higher education leadership. As provost and executive vice president of the University of Idaho from 2005 to 2013, he guided the development, implementation and revision of the institution’s strategic plan during a period of fiscal challenges. At NIU, he is centering his administration on student career success to prepare students to compete in a rapidly changing modern world, focusing on ethically inspired leadership, building thriving communities and program and financial sustainability. His blueprint to make NIU “an incredible place” intellectually, culturally, socially, economically and physically requires collaboration, integration and a change in university culture.
