Louise Lief is Scholar-in-Residence at the American University School of Communication Investigative Reporting Workshop. In 2014, as a public policy scholar at the Wilson Center, she began the Science and the Media Project. The project explores ways to encourage the general media to engage in challenging subject areas by fostering innovative, interdisciplinary approaches and utilizing emerging digital tools.
From 1998-2012 Ms. Lief was founding deputy director of the International Reporting Project (formerly the Pew International Journalism Program) at the Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies, a program that educates journalists on international issues. Previously, she was a Washington-based diplomatic correspondent and senior editor for U.S. News and World Report. She also reported overseas for a variety of news organizations, including CBS News ‘60 Minutes,’ The New York Times, Time, Newsweek, The Boston Globe Magazine and The Christian Science Monitor. An award-winning journalist, Ms. Lief has traveled to over 70 countries, reported from five continents, and has worked for newspapers, magazines, radio, television and online publications.
