Miguel's Twitter Rant: Singer Claims 'Black People Are The Most Judgmental People In The World'

Singer Goes On Racially Charged Twitter Rant

Miguel is undoubtedly having a moment right now. The 27-year-old singer burst onto the scene last summer and has since won a Grammy, was wooed by Kelly Clarkson at the very same event, teamed up with Mariah Carey, and spawned many unfortunate gifs following his epic fall at the Billboard Music Awards.

But Miguel, who made TIME magazine's list of the 100 Most Influential People in the World and is of both African-American and Mexican-American decent, is not one to shy away from controversy. The singer took to Twitter this weekend to express quite a few thoughts:

Im proud of my heritage but honestly, black people are the most judgmental people in the world. Shits sad man.

we've been conditioned, pre-programmed to hate ourselves

that's why I appreciate those who choose to think and act for themselves regardless of ethnicity or culture

— Miguel (@Miguel) May 27, 2013

the problem can not be fixed until the problem is recognized. Not everyone is the same thank goodness. And obviously, I love all my fans

— Miguel (@Miguel) May 27, 2013

Of course EVERYONE is judgemental. I just PERSONALLY believe WE are the most critical of our own

According to the Urban Daily, Miguel's rant was prompted by a tweet from a fan who said the singer sold his soul. "Don't be an idiot," replied the singer in a now-deleted Tweet, then continued on with with the above series.

Though the singer warns in his Twitter bio "Dont follow Me, I'm trouble," his over 500,000 followers took his opinions to heart, retweeting and commenting both for and against his beliefs.
