Pope Leo XIV showed his true faith in the Chicago White Sox after someone shouted a reference to rival team the Chicago Cubs during a Vatican appearance on Wednesday.
As the pontiff waved to the crowd from the popemobile, someone yelled toward him: “Go Cubs! Go Cubs!”
Without missing a beat, Leo replied, “Han perdido,” Spanish for “They lost.”
“They lost,” he then repeated in English, a reference to the Cubs’ playoff defeat to the Milwaukee Brewers.
The White Sox celebrated the moment online, posting on X (formerly Twitter): “That’s our Pope.”
Leo’s devotion to the team is well-known.
He attended the 2005 World Series against the Houston Astros and even wore a White Sox cap during a public appearance in June.
