Michael Phelps is no stranger to breaking records, but now the beast in the pool has enough golds to break a 2000-year-old Olympic record of the most individual victories (it was set by Leonidas of Rhodes in 152 B.C).
On Thursday night (local time) Phelps won the 200 metre individual medley, making it his fourth gold medal at Rio and his 22nd Olympic gold.
He is also now the only swimmer to win the same event in four consecutive games.
Phelps made his Olympic gold debut at the 2004 Athens games, taking home six gold medals in total. The United States swimmer then brought home eight from the 2008 Beijing Olympics (plus a number of world records) while the 2012 London Olympics left him with four more.
Here is Michael Phelps, with every. single. gold.
