'Keystone Horror' Spoofs Controversial Pipeline; Features Celebrities (VIDEO)

WATCH: 'Keystone Horror' Compares Pipeline To Scary Movie

A video against the controversial Keystone XL pipeline is comparing the project to a horror movie, taking viewers through the dark discoveries of an innocent family.

The trailer titled "Keystone Horror," a spoof of the 1979 "Amityville Horror" film, stars Amy Smart, Justin Chatwin, Wendie Malick and Ed Begley Jr. and is created by environmental group 350.org and True Climate Stories, Mother Nature Network reports.

It documents the journey of a family moving into a new home near the construction of a pipeline. "The perfect family. The perfect home. One huge mistake," states the video, before the family discovers hidden horrors of the home in true horror-movie fashion.

"This is just a movie, but climate change is very real," says the description of the video.

The pipeline, if approved, would carry 800,000 barrels of oil a day from Alberta across six U.S. states to the Texas Gulf Coast.

U.S. President Barack Obama is expected to issue a final decision later this year or in 2014 on whether to allow the $7-billion pipeline to proceed.

The refining or upgrading of the tarry bitumen which lies under the oil sands consumes far more oil and energy than conventional oil and produces almost twice as much carbon. Each barrel of oil requires 3-5 barrels of fresh water from the neighboring Athabasca River. About 90% of this is returned as toxic tailings into the vast unlined tailings ponds that dot the landscape. This area, located in the extreme northwest of British Columbia, marks the western boundary of the Boreal region. On the border of the Yukon and Southeast Alaska, the western flank of these mountains descends into Alaska's Tongass Rainforest and British Columbia's Great Bear Rainforest. Far from the oil sands, the greatest remaining coastal temperate and marine ecosystem is imminently threatened by the proposal to build a 750-mile pipeline to pump 550,000 barrels per day of oil sands crude to the coast. This network of roads reminded me of a claw or tentacles. It represents for me the way in which the tentacles of the tar sands reach out and wreak havoc and destruction. Proposed pipelines to American Midwest, Mackenzie Valley, and through the Great Bear Rainforest will bring new threats to these regions while the pipelines fuel new markets and ensure the proposed five fold expansion of the oil sands.
