Pattrick Blackburn, a gay man living in St. John's, Newfoundland, who was beaten last week, has taken to Facebook and YouTube to speak out about the unprovoked attack.

“It’s really scary when somebody tells you that if you weren’t found 10 minutes before you would’ve bled out and died,” he said in the video which has since been taken down, choking back tears.

Blackburn recounts that a group of men followed him and he could hear one of them uttering a gay slur before he was attacked, he recounts in the video.

Blackburn suffered damage to his left eye, needed 18 stitches for other injuries and is suffering from short-term memory loss. The attackers stole his personal items including his rent money and his phone. A friend found him and got him to a hospital.

UPDATE: The HuffPost Canada has spoken to St. John's Pride and to police in Newfoundland. Unfortunately, the video has been removed from YouTube.

Blackburn posted a number of dramatic posts on Facebook.

"I remember nothing about any weapon or anything," he told Canada.com in an e-mail interview.

"I never thought that something like this could happen in Newfoundland. But it’s still going on," Blackburn said in the video.

The Huffington Post Canada contacted the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary who said they were still investigating the incident and had no details to release.

The attack has shaken up Newfoundland's gay community. "I’ve never heard pray tell of anything happening like this happening in St. John’s," said Noah Davis-Power, president of St. John's Pride.

"It rattles everybody," he said.

"It makes you wonder; am I going to get beat up when I go downtown if I dress a bit more flamboyantly, or if I'm holding my partner’s hand," he added.

He also said that he wants to plan an event for Blackburn but is waiting for him to recover from his injuries and to see what the community wants.

The Huffington Post has reached out to Blackburn for more information.

Queer Ottawa is hosting a fundraiser for Blackburn on Friday. A fundraiser will also be held in Halifax.

Pat Robertson: Gays With Aids Wear Rings To Cut, Infect Others(01 of10)

Pat Robertson made an outrageous comment in August 2013 on an episode of the 700 club, in which he claimed that gay people suffering from AIDS in cities such as San Francisco wear "special rings" that allow them to cut and infect other individuals with the disease. Right Wing Watch reported that particular comment from the broadcast was edited out of the clip the Christian Broadcasting Network later posted online. The Huffington Post could not immediately reach a CBN representative for comment.“You know what they do in San Francisco? Some in the gay community there, they want to get people. So if they got the stuff they’ll have a ring, you shake hands and the ring’s got a little thing where you cut your finger,” he said. “Really. It’s that kind of vicious stuff, which would be the equivalent of murder.” (credit:AP)

The former "Saturday Night Live" star and now Tea Party activist sparked national furor when she slammed the hit show "Glee" after it featured a kiss between two gay characters in a column for WorldNetDaily. In the column, Jackson wrote in response to an emotional, long awaited kiss between Kurt (Chris Colfer) and Blaine (Darren Criss). "Did you see "Glee" this week? Sickening! And, besides shoving the gay thing down our throats, they made a mockery of Christians - again! I wonder what their agenda is? Hey, producers of "Glee" - what's your agenda? One-way tolerance?"She later appeared on "Showbiz Tonight" to clarify her thoughts. "Well, it doesn't matter what I think," Jackson said. "What matters is what the Bible says. And I'm really concerned about our country because immorality is, well, let's see: secular humanism rules the airwaves, and it's stealing the innocence away from this whole generation of children. My daughter is a teenager and I can't find any show that she can watch."With that diatribe, Jackson was asked, based on her remarks, both in the column and in the interview, whether she was homophobic."That's a cute little buzzword of the liberal agenda," Jackson smirked. "Basically, the Bible says that homosexuality is a sin." (credit:AP)

Santorum is quoted by the Allentown Morning Call as saying in 2004, "This is an issue just like 9/11... We didn't decide we wanted to fight the war on terrorism because we wanted to. It was brought to us. And if not now, when? When the supreme courts in all the other states have succumbed to the Massachusetts version of the law?" (credit:AP)
Stacey Campfield: 'Virtually Impossible' To Contract AIDS Through Heterosexual Sex(04 of10)

Tennessee's GOP State Senator Stacey Campfield told HuffPost Gay Voices in January: "Most people realize that AIDS came from the homosexual community -- it was one guy screwing a monkey, if I recall correctly, and then having sex with men. It was an airline pilot, if I recall.""My understanding is that it is virtually -- not completely, but virtually -- impossible to contract AIDS through heterosexual sex...very rarely [transmitted].""What's the average lifespan of a homosexual? it's very short. Google it yourself." (credit:AP)
Kevin Swanson: Tell Gay Couples To Die On Their Wedding Day(05 of10)

Right-wing pastor and radio host Kevin Swanwon is a regular when it comes to making extremist claims against LGBT individuals. In August 2013, he went a bridge too far when he told listeners on his program that it was ok to attend a same-sex wedding, but only if you held up a sign informing the happy couple that they were an abomination and deserved to die. Swanson stated, "I think you can attend a [gay] wedding if you hold up a sign that reads Leviticus 20:13 ... I guess it comes down to if you bake a cake for a homosexual wedding you could put Leviticus 20:13 on the cake."We'll leave you with this clip of Swanson adamantly and passionately posing the question: "do we love drywall more than children?" Rush Limbaugh On Why Gays Should Be Pro-Life(06 of10)

As quoted by World Net Daily: "Imagine we identify the gene -- assuming that there is one, this is hypothetical -- that will tell us prior to birth that a baby is going to be gay. Just like a baby is gonna be redheaded and freckled and maybe tend to be overweight and so we tell the parents that, and the parents say "Nope, don't wanna give birth to that child, [it's] not gonna have a fair chance. Who wants to give birth to an overweight, freckle-faced redhead?" Bam. So we abort the kid.Well, you add to this, let's say we discover the gene that says the kid's gonna be gay. How many parents, if they knew before the kid was gonna be born, [that he] was gonna be gay, they would take the pregnancy to term? Well, you don't know but let's say half of them said, "Oh, no, I don't wanna do that to a kid." [Then the] gay community finds out about this. The gay community would do the fastest 180 and become pro-life faster than anybody you've ever seen. ... They'd be so against abortion if it was discovered that you could abort what you knew were gonna be gay babies." (credit:AP)

Brett Ratner: Rehearsal 'Is For Fags'(10 of10)

After being asked whether he rehearses with his actors before shooting a scene, the "Tower Heist" director Ratner infamously replied, "Rehearsing is for fags."The gaffe, made during a Q&A session following a "Tower Heist" screening in late 2011, seemed questionable even for the sharp-tongued Ratner, who is said to be in talks to direct an adaptation of the Broadway musical "Wicked." One audience member is said to have been so upset by the reference that they immediately left the session. Though he later resigned from co-producer of the 2012 Oscars telecast, he also apologized for the statement: "It was a dumb way of expressing myself," he wrote. "Everyone who knows me knows that I don't have a prejudiced bone in my body. But as a storyteller I should have been much more thoughtful about the power of language and my choice of words."
