Sophia Popalyar Will Finally Get To Meet Harjit Sajjan

Watch out for Prime Minister Sophia Popalyar, everyone.

Two-year-old Sophia Popalyar really, really loves Canadian politics.

So when the toddler — who is famous for naming Canadian cabinet ministers from memory — realized she missed out on a chance to meet the defence minister, she was heartbroken.

Really, really heartbroken.

"I want to go to Parliament... to see Harjit Sajjan," cries the toddler in a video posted by her dad, Fawad Popalyar.

It was shot on Canada Day in Ottawa, after heavy rainfall cut short the family's plan to take part in Parliament Hill festivities. Sophia's dad later tried to explain to her that the defence minister was celebrating the holiday with his family in Vancouver.

"I want to go to Canada Day," Sophia screams as her parents try to comfort her.

Minister's responds

Sophia has long been a fan of Sajjan, and recognizes the defence minister and Vancouver MP immediately on TV, her dad told The Huffington Post Canada on Monday.

"We've talked about him a lot and Sophia's taken an interest in him," Popalyar said.

Sophia's tears didn't go unnoticed. Sajjan came across the toddler's video and responded with his own:

"I'm so sorry I missed you in Ottawa," Sajjan says in a YouTube video posted Monday. "I'm looking forward to meeting you, because one of my goals is to meet with future leaders of Canada."

Popalyar says he's been in touch with Sajjan's staff, and they'll meet when Sophia "can get a day off" from daycare in Ottawa where they now live.

"This is an example of Canada's heart, in a sense, that cabinet ministers are open to meet such young fans of theirs," the father said.

This won't be the first time Sophia will have face time with a minister.

In December, she met Democratic Institutions Minister Maryam Monsef — her "favourite" member of cabinet.

The little politics fanatic sat in Monsef's lap and proudly sang a rendition of 'O Canada.'

"We're going to be voting for [Sophia] someday, I should probably get to know her," Monsef told the Peterborough Examiner at the time.

Her dad couldn't agree more.

"That's our hope, that she will continue on this path and find her future in serving this country," Popalyar told HuffPost Canada.

Watch out for Prime Minister Sophia Popalyar, everyone.
