The Way We Watch Video Will Soon Change Forever

Viral video material can pop up at any time, and there are now a ton of apps on the market that can make mobile recording that much easier and higher quality. There are a few apps in particular like Camera MX, that allow you to combine effects and photo frames to get more creative with your camera.

Forget the big screen. Online video gained a lot of momentum last year and it shows no signs of slowing down in 2014. People want to watch what they want, when they want and on the device of their choice. The evolution of YouTube and video technology is reaching exciting new heights. Below are a few developments that I predict will change how we watch video in 2014 and beyond.

Seamless Mobile to Home Theatre Technology

We love watching videos on our mobile phones, but the home theatre isn't going anywhere anytime soon. This year I've seen the makings of some very interesting innovations that help seamlessly bring the mobile viewing experience into the home theatre when you get home. Sling Media's SlingPlayer, which has been around for a little while but stands to gain popularity this year, is a step in the right direction. It essentially allows you to watch or control your satellite TV from anywhere in the world -- an essential for any busy executive or jet setter.

Endless Possibilities for Mobile Recording

Viral video material can pop up at any time, and there are now a ton of apps on the market that can make mobile recording that much easier and higher quality. There are a few apps in particular like Camera MX, that allow you to combine effects and photo frames to get more creative with your camera. You can present them in animated photo slideshows and combine them with music to make cool videos.

4K Recording Options

YouTube's recent announcement of 4K video streaming means video resolution can now be up to four times higher than regular HD. This introduces an entirely new level of viewing quality for video. Is perfect integration quite a ways off? Most definitely. Are the majority of us still excited about it as it evolves throughout the year? Without a doubt.

3D Printers and The 'Democratization' of Manufacturing

YouTube allowed us to create our own videos and distribute them to global audiences. Now with 3D printers, YouTube stars will be able to expand their personal brands into low-cost custom merchandise. This is of course just a surface example. I can't wait to see what will come from what this innovation has to offer.

Video Interactivity

One very interesting trend to watch for is the constant innovation of how and when we interact with our favourite videos. As online video formats continue to integrate right into social media platforms, and as technology allows us to shop and share more easily with the videos themselves, there are a lot of exciting possibilities for consumers and marketers alike.

I couldn't possibly cover everything, but I think it's pretty clear that "mobile" technology is looking to step outside the pocket and move on to something a little bit more 'out-in-the-open' for 2014.

If you happen to be a fan of "The Jetsons," you're going to love this. For about $125,000, you can get your hands on your very own M200G Hover-Car, thanks to Moller International, reported Gizmodo way back in 2007. While the M200G is pretty cool to look at (even if the photo is a little retro), a sleek flying car called the M400 Skycar may be the company's next project (though so far there's been no word on how it's coming along.) This futuristic-looking "supercar," the Tramontana R, is a product of European auto-maker a.d. Tramontana and features a carbon fiber body, a max speed of more than 200 mph, and a V12 engine that produces a maximum horsepower of 720. Unfortunately, all of these awesome specs (and the fact that it looks almost as cool as the Batmobile) have landed the car with a ridiculous price tag. According to Forbes, it costs upwards of $511,126, and only 12 are released each year. (credit:a.d. Tramontana)
Audi A8(03 of06)

Audi's 2012 "super-luxury" vehicle is hailed as a standout in its class. Writes U.S. News,
Test drivers say the A8's cabin is exceptionally crafted, and the standard MMI infotainment system now features Google Earth views on its navigation screen and available Wi-Fi connectivity, thanks to a SIM card in the A8's dash. Reviewers like the design and features inside the A8, but note that it packs less cargo space than many competing luxury sedans. Passenger space, on the other hand is ample.
If it's anything like its predecessor, the Audi A7, which our own Jason Gilbert called a "tech-lover's dream," the A8 is sure to win over drivers who have $75,704 to $130,192 laying around.

Pretty soon there will be a hybrid flying car on the market, too. While this Burt Rutan model has yet to be approved for regular use on the road, it is fueled by both electric motors and gasoline engines, so, whether driving or flying, you're traveling a little greener than the rest. In October of last year, the DeLorean Motor Company, makers behind the iconic DMC-12, used as the time machine in Back to the Future, announced an all-electric model for, well, the future. According to a press release, the company paired up with Epic Electric Vehicles to bring this well-known car back to life and plans to market it in the States in 2013. (credit:DeLorean)

Mitsubishi's i-MiEV is a cleaner alternative to city driving. According to Mitsubishi's website, the i-MiEV features a lithium-ion battery system along with its motor and other engine components, a seating capacity of four, and a max speed of about 80 miles per hour. This super-green vehicle recently clinched the top spot on the American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy's (ACEEE) 14th annual Greenest Cars List for 2012. (credit:Getty)
