C'est une histoire très touchante que racontent ces photos postées mardi 2 mai sur la page Facebook "Love What Matters". Nous pouvons y voir Ray Burrow, en compagnie de sa femme Christy et de ses trois enfants: Zaidee (15 ans), Ava (13 ans) et Nathan (9 ans). Mais derrière les sourires de chacun se cache une certitude que personne ne peut oublier: celle que Ray les quittera bientôt.

Diagnostiqué d'un cancer de la gorge il y a sept ans, cet homme aujourd'hui âgé de 41 ans a pris la décision d'arrêter son traitement le mois dernier. C'est à ce moment-là que sa femme Christy a eu l'idée d'une séance photo où Ray pourrait vivre les moments qu'il ne pourra pas connaître avec ses enfants: leur mariage, leur première voiture et leur remise des diplôme, entre autres.

"Ray Burrow et Christy sont tombées amoureux alors qu'ils n'étaient que deux adolescents. Et malgré le fait que ces premières amours s'estompent souvent au fil du temps, Ray et Christy, eux, sont restés ensemble. Mariés en juin 1997, ils ont eu trois enfants: Zaidee 15 ans, Ava 13 ans et Nathan 9 ans. Mais depuis sept ans, Ray se bat contre un cancer de la gorge et se rapproche peu à peu de la fin. En avril 2017, la famille a en effet fait le choix d'arrêter les traitements et ils tentent depuis de profiter de chaque moment qu'ils peuvent passer ensemble. Car Ray sait qu'il ne sera pas là pour voir ses enfants le jour où ils recevront leur diplôme, qu'il ne pourra pas accompagner ses filles le jour de leur mariage, qu'il ne pourra pas non plus les voir passer leur permis de conduire ou leur acheter leur première voiture. C'est pour toutes ces raisons et pour ses enfants que Christy, la femme de Ray, a tenu à ce que ces moments soient immortalisés. Elle voulait des photos de ses filles en robe de mariée avec leur papa à leurs côtés afin que ces dernières puissent être montrées le jour où ses filles se marieront pour de vrai, elle voulait des photos de chacun de ses enfants en toge et en coiffe avec leur papa qui les regarderait fièrement. Elle voulait aussi des photos de Ray tendant à ses enfants les clés d'une voiture flambant neuve le jour de leur 16e anniversaire. En somme, elle voulait des photos de la famille que Ray et elle avait fondé, une famille forte et soudée, toujours soudée."

As a colon cancer survivor, the fashion designer is involved in many efforts to raise awareness for colorectal cancer. He has joined forces with Katie Couric, the NCCRA and the Entertainment Industry Foundation, among others, according to his website.

"Before I was diagnosed with colon cancer I was totally unaware of my own family history relating to the disease. With no family history on record, I was not eligible for prescreening by insurance and would have normally had to wait until the age of 50 for my first colon cancer screening. Had I waited my prognoses would have been much, much different," he has said.

"My good friend Carmen is living proof that colorectal cancer is treatable. As a first step, we want to encourage people to talk to their doctors about getting screened.," she told People.com.
