LE CAIRE, Égypte - Le ministère égyptien des Affaires étrangères a déclaré mercredi que le président destitué la semaine dernière, Mohammed Morsi, était gardé dans un lieu sûr et traité «d'une manière très digne».

Le porte-parole du ministère, Badr Abdel-Atti, a affirmé devant les journalistes qu'aucune accusation n'avait été porté contre M. Morsi, renversé par les militaires le 3 juillet après un soulèvement populaire.

M. Abdel-Atti a toutefois précisé que pour la sécurité de M. Morsi et du pays, les autorités devaient le garder en sécurité dans un endroit secret, «parce qu'autrement, les conséquences seront terribles».

Cette déclaration survient alors que les nouvelles autorités du pays ont renforcé les mesures de répression contre les Frères musulmans.

Le procureur général d'Égypte a ordonné mercredi l'arrestation du chef spirituel du mouvement et de neuf autres personnes pour leur rôle allégué dans les violences qui ont coûté la vie à plus de 50 personnes lors d'un affrontement avec les militaires plus tôt cette semaine au Caire.

Le bureau du procureur général a déclaré dans un communiqué qu'il avait émis des mandats d'arrestation visant le «guide suprême» des Frères musulmans, Mohammed Badie, ainsi que son adjoint, Mahmoud Ezzat. Huit autres leaders islamistes sont également visés.

Les leaders islamistes sont soupçonnés d'avoir incité les violences devant l'édifice de la garde républicaine au Caire lundi, qui ont fait 54 morts.

Mohammed Badie est une personnalité révérée parmi les partisans des Frères musulmans, qui lui doivent une obéissance absolue.
