Je me croyais à l'abri en France plus qu'à Jakarta. C'est un peu naïf, et je remarque que mes attentes sont à double standard.

Ma famille et moi avons la chance de parcourir le globe et de partager notre vie entre plusieurs continents. C'est un choix que moi et mon conjoint avons fait, qui vient avec ses avantages et son lot de complications par moments.

En 2015, nous nous retrouvions devant plusieurs options d'expatriation : après avoir survolé les offres d'emploi en Afrique et une à Haïti, nous nous sommes dit qu'avec deux petites filles, il serait préférable de choisir une destination plus sécuritaire.

Nous étions finalement devant les options Dubaï et Bretagne, deux styles de vie différents, il va sans dire. Pour des raisons de valeurs, nous avons décidé de revenir nous installer en Bretagne. Nous avons déjà habité la péninsule arabique pendant plusieurs années, mais nous souhaitions voir grandir nos filles à faire de la voile et des châteaux de sable, plutôt que dans la grande (magnifique) ville de Dubaï, qui est somme toute plus artificielle.

Vous voyageons toujours beaucoup, pour le travail ou encore pour visiter notre famille au Québec. La question de sécurité se pose donc particulièrement pour nous. Pour tout le monde, me direz-vous, puisque personne n'est à l'abri de la folie du terrorisme. Mais comme nous empruntons plus souvent les aéroports et les trains que la norme, nous y pensons plus souvent.

Cette semaine, je voyageais seule avec mes deux enfants et je devais passer par Paris, puis par l'aéroport de Paris-Charles-de-Gaulle. Je l'avoue, j'ai été stressée pendant une semaine avant le voyage, principalement au sujet de la sécurité.

J'ai habité Jakarta au moment d'une attaque à la bombe. J'ai vécu au Moyen-Orient pendant le Printemps arabe. Pour moi, il allait toujours de soi d'être un peu sur mes gardes en habitant des régions à risque pour le terrorisme. Quand mon mari partait en mer sur le golfe de Somalie, ou naviguait devant l'Iran ou le Koweït, j'avais toujours en tête que notre vie comportait un certain degré de danger, mais cela faisait partie de notre style de vie hors norme. Par contre, je n'avais pas calculé, en revenant m'installer en France, que je craindrais parfois de devenir veuve en le voyant partir pour un meeting sur Paris, ou que d'emmener mes enfants dans les aéroports français ou les déposer à l'école me procurerait un petit pincement au cœur.

La menace terroriste n'est pas totalement nouvelle en Europe ; il y a eu des attaques majeures dans les 40 dernières années. Mais on dirait qu'elle est maintenant installée confortablement. Je n'ai pas l'intention d'être alarmiste, car je vais continuer à vivre de façon tout à fait normale malgré cela, mais je n'ai pas non plus l'intention de faire l'autruche. C'est une réalité décevante, en 2016, mais présente.

L'Europe se croyait à l'abri du mal qui ronge le monde. Je me croyais à l'abri en France plus qu'à Jakarta. C'est un peu naïf, et je remarque que mes attentes sont à double standard. Nous ne sommes pas surpris (malheureusement) d'apprendre qu'un kamikaze a sévi au Pakistan. C'est loin de nous, et commun. C'est triste, car une vie humaine a la même valeur, peu importe à quel endroit sur la planète, mais nos attentes en matière de sécurité sont différentes si nous habitons la Bretagne ou Bagdad.

Je ne changerai pas mes plans de voyage par peur de faire partie de la triste histoire et des victimes réelles ou collatérales du terrorisme. Par contre, maintenant, je reste avertie et un peu plus soucieuse quant à la sécurité mondiale. Pour moi, le terrorisme inclus aussi les tueries de masse américaines, et donc n'a pas de couleur ou de religion. J'espère bien un jour retrouver la tranquillité d'esprit européenne, mais pour l'instant... je reste réaliste et prudente!
