Alisha Steindecker

Student, Brandeis University

Alisha Steindecker, 21, is a young journalist who will be graduating from Brandeis University with a BA in international and global studies and a minor in journalism in May 2015. She has worked at several publications, all with different journalistic audiences and thus, goals. Her experience freelancing for a bilingual newspaper, Voz Latina, helped Latinos participate in local governance in the Hamptons by providing them with an outlet to understand the news. Additionally, her work at Hamptons Magazine, which has a wealth of resources, gave insight into the scope of the journalism industry -– she worked within two different worlds in the same summer. Last summer, she had the opportunity to report at the Southampton Press, where she wrote feature stories about local events. Currently, she is a research assistant at the Schuster Institute for Investigative Journalism, which has helped her to develop the necessary skills for in-depth research and determining a newsworthy story. She was born and raised in Southampton, New York, where the diverse town sparked her interest in writing.
