Aric Noboa

Aric Noboa serves as President of Discovery Learning Alliance (DLA), a nonprofit organization using the power of media to transform education and improve lives in under-served communities around the world. Established by Discovery Communications, DLA has created dynamic learning environments in schools in 16 countries, improving student learning, teacher effectiveness and community engagement. DLA reaches tens of millions of people through talk shows, feature films and other mass media initiatives for social impact.

Noboa brings together two decades of experience in media, international development and education. Recent projects include INSIDE STORY, a scripted feature produced by Noboa about love, soccer and HIV. LA Weekly called the film "a rousing success" and it is now the most widely seen film ever in Africa. The film also earned Noboa and invitation to join the St. George’s House Windsor Castle Leadership Initiative on HIV/AIDS, a gathering of 30 social entrepreneurs from Africa, Europe, and the U.S.

Together with international production teams, Noboa has received dozens of industry honors and festival awards from Los Angeles to Zanzibar. Noboa often speaks on creating media to advance education and development, behavior change communication and sustainable technology.

After graduating from James Madison University, Noboa joined the staff of a Member of the U.S. House of Representatives. His legislative work and speech writing focused on education, the environment, commerce, and the political status of U.S. territories. Noboa left his position as Senior Legislative Assistant to work on a hospital ship in Benin, West Africa, where he led a community health education team working in rural areas.

Returning to the U.S. to pursue film and television, Noboa managed post-production for two of Discovery’s international networks before relocating to South Africa to manage production for DLA.
