Aya de Leon

Teaches creative writing at UC Berkeley Africana Studies, feminist heist novel UPTOWN THIEF forthcoming in July 2016 from Kensington Books.

Aya de Leon directs the Poetry for the People program, teaching poetry and spoken word in the African American Studies Department at UC Berkeley. Her work has appeared in Essence Magazine, xojane, Ebony, Guernica, Reductress, Writers Digest, Mutha Magazine, Bitch Magazine, Racialicious, Fusion, Quartz, The Honest Courtesan, Hip Mama, and BuzzFeed. She blogs and tweets about culture, gender, and race at @AyadeLeon and Kensington Books will be publishing her debut feminist heist novel, UPTOWN THIEF, in 2016. She is also working on a collection of essays about intersectional feminism.
