Eliot J. Lazar, MD, MBA

Dr. Lazar completed residency in Internal Medicine at the Bronx Municipal Hospital Center/Albert Einstein College of Medicine, and then served as Chief Medical Resident. He then entered fellowship training in Cardiology at the Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York.

His initial appointment was as the Associate Director of Medicine and Co-Director of the Intensive Care Unit at the Hospital of the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, He served on numerous hospital and departmental committees and in 1991, he was appointed as a Consultant to the Commissioner at the Food and Drug Administration, focusing on policy matters pertaining to continuing medical education and adverse drug event reporting. He continued in this capacity through 1993, and received the Commissioner's Special Citation for his work.

In 1993, he was appointed Chairman of the Department of Medicine and Program Director, Internal Medicine Residency Program at the Brooklyn Hospital Center.

In 2000, he joined the New York Presbyterian Healthcare System as Vice President, Medical Affairs. In 2004 he was appointed Chief Medical Officer of the Healthcare System, and Associate Dean (HealthcareSystem) for Weill Cornell Medical College. In this position he coordinates, System-wide clinical programming, quality initiatives, for over 20 institutions. In 2007, his responsibilities were expanded to include the role of Chief Quality & Patient Officer for New York Presbyterian Hospital/Healthcare System, and was subsequently promoted to Senior Vice President. He has served on numerous regional and national bodies addressing issues including healthcare reform, serious adverse event reporting, and quality & safety data. He is also the founding program chair of the GNYHA/UHF Clinical Quality Fellows Program.

Dr. Lazar's initial research interests included clinical trials in hypertension and coronary disease, healthcare disparities. More recently his scholarly activities have focused on quality issues and health services delivery research. He has served as Principal Investigator or co-PI on numerous funded studies. He is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians, American College of Cardiology, American College of Chest Physicians the New York Academy of Medicine and the Royal Society of Medicine (UK). He is Board certified in Internal Medicine, Cardiology, and Geriatrics.
