Susan SurfTone

Surf/Rockabilly Guitarist/Vocalist, Former FBI Special Agent, Attorney, lifelong member of the LGBT community

I was born and raised in Hudson, NY. After graduating from Smith College and Boston University School of Law I became an FBI Special Agent. I worked bank robberies and foreign counterintelligence. I also worked as an attorney for the New York City Police Department. However, I had another calling. At age seven I decided I wanted to be Elvis Presley and after The Beatles came to the US in 1964 the deal was sealed. I had to become a guitarist in a rock and roll band. I took lessons and found out I was good at it. At age 28 I started my first band, left the FBI and never looked back. Success finally came in 1995 with a record deal from a label in Hamburg, Germany for my band Susan and the SurfTones. Tours of Europe followed and two more European record deals were made. Susan and the SurfTones enjoyed a good following in upstate New York. In 2000 I moved west to Portland, Oregon and reformed the band. In 2011 I became Susan SurfTone and developed a sound influenced by The Beatles, Elvis, Chuck Berry, The Ramones, Blondie and The Velvet Underground. West coast tours and more recordings followed which continue up through today. In 2016 I started singing and speaking my mind.
