With The Dark Knight shredding one box office record after another, it's easy to forget that some movies can still slip under the radar, pile up money and turn into box office hits when no one is looking.
If Recount had told the truth about that stolen race (and what is still happening right now), and calling it by its true name, that movie would have done us all tremendous good.
Recount is long overdue. Now it's time for the media to finally face up to Act 2 of the GOP's rape of the American electoral system, and produce a piece of equal heft and clout about Ohio 2004.
"Recount" is a strong film, both dramatic and funny. While it may be more fiction than fact, it succeeds in one undeniable way: it reminds us of the many, many things that can go wrong with the election process.
Last night I finally saw Recount (HBO, debuting 5/25), and I feel no hesitancy whatsoever in calling it totally crackerjack -- a throughly engaging, first-rate political drama that gets you off.
