Father Michael Pfleger, Senior Pastor, Faith Community of Saint Sabina, writes:

“The most valuable critic is one who loves deeply that which he critiques. John Fountain deeply loves the church and, like millions of others, is both disappointed and saddened by a church that seemingly has had its identity stolen by self-serving individuals who have hijacked its authority and its purpose.

“Mr. Fountain confronts those who have turned the church into a Fortune 500 business, a modern day golden calf, to make profit and have forgotten its call to be prophetic. Mr. Fountain challenges the church to return to the Christ whose name she bears and once again care for and be a voice of the poor, disenfranchised and alienated. For they are the ones that she has not only ignored, but helped throw them to the side of the Jericho Road.

“We owe Mr. Fountain a debt of gratitude for challenging the church to regain her stolen identity and become again the moral compass we need her to be. Hopefully, she’s listening.”
