After battling cancer for many years and being estranged from his daughter since 2007, Demi Lovato's biological father, Patrick, died this weekend. While the 20-year-old singer did not immediately comment on the loss, just yesterday she took to Twitter to quietly acknowledge her dad's passing and express her sincerest appreciation for those who have come out to give her strength in this difficult time.

The former Disney star's older sister, 25-year-old Dallas, originally broke the news when she posted on Saturday, "Rest in peace daddy I love you," as fans made #RIPPatrickLovato a trending topic. Demi's "X-Factor" co-stars also reached out on Twitter and her mother, Dianna De La Garza, expressed appreciation for the amazing "outpouring of love and prayers" the family has received.
