Inmates Found Using 'Escape Hatch' At Oklahoma Halfway House

Inmates at an Oklahoma halfway house are in hot water after an “escape hatch” was discovered in the facility, along with meth, cell phones, syringes and even an “improvised” sex toy, authorities said.

The false wall and illicit goodies were found inside of Oklahoma City’s Center Point halfway house during a recent contraband search, Oklahoma’s Department of Corrections announced Friday.

It’s believed that after returning from daily work assignments, inmates used the secret exit, located in a bathroom, to slip out undetected.

The inmates residing at the facility are ones who are nearing the end of their sentences and use the halfway house to help prepare their return to the outside world. But following the security breach, authorities said that more time may be added to their sentences.

“Halfway houses are designed to allow inmates to transition back into society while remaining clean,” Corrections Director Joe M. Allbaugh said in a release. “This lack of accountability and oversight is unacceptable. I expect Center Point’s cooperation as we look into its security standards.”

The stash of items recovered during the bust has been identified as the following:

• 18 cellphones
• 87 cellphone chargers
• 4 grams of marijuana
• 0.6 grams of methamphetamine
• 39 syringes
• A half-gallon bottle of vodka
• 2 pounds of tobacco
• 2 cans of chewing tobacco
• 89 lighters
• 65 electronic devices
• An improvised sexual device
