Young kids spend most of their time sleeping. Infants especially sleep for long hours, a comfortable place to lie on is hence vital as most of their growth time occurs in their sleep. There if every need for comfort and safety to enhance their health and growth. A child’s crib mattress should not be bought based on the affordability but rather, the comfort the baby will acquire from it and better still it has to be safe to lie on for long hours without worrying about suffocation and other complications that may occur while they sleep.

Types of mattresses

Like any other mattress in the market, crib mattresses also differ and range based on the make; one, therefore, chooses based on their desired make, material, comfort, and price.

Foam mattresses; are the most common mattresses available, are light and occur in different sizes and thickness as well. You, therefore, are free to choose based on your task, however, choose a firm, resilient and heavy mattress; should be heavier on the sides. Very soft mattresses may easily suffocate the child in their sleep.

Spring mattresses; they are much higher quality but could be a little more expensive. However, they are more comfortable and cozy to lie on.

Organic mattresses; they are more advantageous as they are firm and cozy. Additionally, they are made of organic substances for example cotton, coconut fibers, and plant-based foam among others that are free of industrial chemicals that may affect the health of a child.

Factors to consider when buying a crib mattress

The proper size

The crib mattress should properly fit in the crib , leaving no spaces between. Take measurements of the crib to be accurate and note it down if you will forget the size. You could also try on a similar crib at the shop to ensure it perfectly fits. The right size promotes the health of you kid and more so prevents suffocation or entrapping of the kid while you are away or asleep.

Resilience

Most times kids sleep in the cribs up to three years, the mattress, therefore, has to be good to accommodate the growing baby. As they grow their movements increase as well. The mattress should be able to allow this without any restraint. Purchase a mattress that quickly gets back in shape when pressed. Babies often make an impression on the mattress, and it could be difficult to change position if it doesn’t quickly adjust in shape.

Firmness

The more firm a mattress is, the better for the kids. This not only allows them comfort in their sleep but goes a far length in enhancing their health and proper growth. Their body remains well aligned creating room for better bone development and alignment and hence preventing complications as the kids mature.

Density

The density of a mattress goes hand in hand with the firmness and resilience. Choose the density that you deem fit for your kid. However, low gauge mattresses are often stronger and hence firm and are therefore most appropriate for use.

Venting of the mattress

Ventilation is essential it facilitates the proper inflow of air, allowing better smell; facilitating any odors from leaking diapers to escape and leave a clean environment for the kid. Small holes are essential in this case.

Cleaning

Mess may occur in the sheets yet penetrate to the mattress requiring washing. Some mattresses may be spot washed while others have removable covers that are easy to wash and hence leave the mattress clean. This will depend on your choice. A proper mattress cover may also be chosen; some are double laminated and prevent penetrations into the mattress.

Weight

This will depend on your choice as well; often when changing the sheets you may be required to lift the mattress, so it should weigh heavily on you yet should still be comfortable for the kid.

The crib mattresses are not expensive, they are quite affordable to parents, it will only take a few minutes to choose the best for your kid, and they enjoy their infancy comfortably. Also, there will be reduced disturbance in your sleep since they will always sleep soundly thanks to the comfort acquired. They get to grow healthily and become energetic as well. Good sleep is the solution to their problems
