Cersei Is Officially The Most Hated Character On 'Game Of Thrones'

This season of "Game of Thrones" has given both critics and fans a lot to talk about so far.

From (spoiler alert!) Joffrey's sudden death to that rape scene to the many deviations from George R.R. Martin's books, there's been a lot for people to bicker over and debate about. Last week, we made a series of polls asking "Game of Thrones" fans how they felt about Season 4 and its recent controversial topics.

As it turns out, the character who "GoT" fans hate the most is Cersei. Now that Joffrey is dead, 41 percent of those who answered the poll chose Cersei, while only 1 percent chose Jaime as the least likable character. This may not seem all that surprising, since the conniving Cersei is always finding ways to manipulate everyone around her. But it is a little shocking since just two episodes ago (before the poll's data was collected on Friday, May 9) Cersei was, according to many critics, raped by Jaime. You'd think that following that episode fans would give her a bit of a break, but the Cersei hate hasn't relented.

When it came to that controversial scene between Jaime and Cersei, many writers claimed it was undeniably rape, as opposed to the director's comments, but the fans have mixed opinions. According to our poll, "GoT" viewers were split across three different opinions: that it was definitely rape, that they understood the director's thoughts on it as consensual, and that they were uncertain whether it was one or the other. However, a slight majority of 38 percent fell closer to classifying it as more consensual.

So what does it all mean? If anything, the rape scene seems to have had little effect on fans of the series. They don't view Jaime as nearly as villainous as Cersei, regardless of whether or not he actually raped his sister, and most fans aren't upset over the changes from the books. More than half of those who took the polls said they don't mind the deviations, as long as the series continues to satisfy. We couldn't agree more.

"Game of Thrones" airs on Sundays at 9 p.m. EDT on HBO.
