Go Green with Alternative Gift Ideas for Dad

With Father’s Day coming up, I wanted to share some fun alternative gift ideas for Dad – because Father’s Day definitely doesn’t have to be all about “manly” items like cologne or shaving sets. From my perspective as a florist, I am inspired by the possibility of “green” gifting – living plants and garden-related options that act as long-lasting, impactful gifts.

Here are my alternative ideas, in no particular order!

Succulents.

Succulents are such a great gift option for Father’s Day. Not only are they low-maintenance, they also come in a variety of shapes, sizes, and colors. The planting possibilities are endless, too. From fishbowls to cement window boxes, striped sand to black rocks, there are all sorts of ways to curate your Dad’s succulent garden!

Updated Pot Collection.

Speaking of vessels, maybe it’s time to upgrade your parents’ garden pots. Is that terracotta starting to look a little past its prime? Why not mix it up a bit and upgrade to a chic white stone pot or a modern grey fiberglass urn? Brownie points if you offer to do the replanting for Dad!

Orchids.

Orchids make a beautiful and elegant gift for any parent. I love that orchids can bloom again and again, and with only minimal care. To make this alternative gift idea even more unique, try out an oncidium orchid for an update to the traditional potted phalaenopsis orchid look.

Indoor Floor Plant.

Really “green” things up and get Dad an indoor floor plant. Ideal for a study, kitchen, or dining room, there are so many types of indoor plants to choose from! Pro tip: fiddle leaf fig is my top pick. It looks great in any setting with its bold, big leaves, and like succulents and orchids, is relatively low-maintenance.
