Sandwiches can seem deceptively simple. However, finding a perfect balance can take the humble sandwich from basic to decadent. So, how does one elevate a sandwich? We asked the chefs at the New York City Wine and Food Festival's "Stacked" Competition to find out.
By and large chef's say to start off with high quality bread and make the choice count. Do you want a crusty sourdough or a riche rye? Other chefs stayed loyal to the condiments, like mayonnaise, but ultimately it comes down to that perfect textural and taste balance. A sandwich needs that savory kick with a good crunch and soft counterpoint.
