No, I will not be marching in DC this Saturday. No, I will not even be marching in Boston. This Saturday is Shabbat and the day each week when I practice seeing what is good in the world. It is the day when I refrain from fixing all that is broken and instead rest and celebrate what is whole. For me, a Shabbat protest, even one as important as the Women’s March will be something I miss.

How will I mark this inauguration? Tomorrow from sunrise to just before sunset, I will be fasting.

  • I fast to call upon each of us to stand up bigotry and greed.
  • I fast to call out to G!d to protect Her world from the forces of chaos that are rising.
  • I fast to attune myself not with the rich but with the poor who hunger daily.
  • I fast to open my heart to the needs of our planet.
  • I fast and will donate the money I would have spent on food to tzedakah (charity) to make the world more safe and for all.

Ana Hashem Hoshia Na. Oh G!d, Please Save Us.

Who will join me and religious leaders across the country in this #InaugurationFast?
